The executive committee consists of the executive plus the following:
Saadia has
been a member of the Association of Women Solicitors since 2000 and was
chair of AWS (London group) in 2007/2008. She is an avid supporter of
the AWS and its goal of representing women and their achievements in
the legal field.
Saadia joined the national committee in 2007 and is chair of the law reform and research sub-committee. She is committed to responding to consultation papers whose focus is equality and diversity, and cementing opportunity and career progression for women solicitors.
Saadia became an associate school governor following an AWS initiative with the School Governors’ One Stop Shop.
Saadia is a solicitor in private practice at Bankside Law and
specialises in fraud, professional disciplinary actions and private
crime. She has also acted for individuals in criminal appeal cases and
has received praise from clients for her thorough and professional
approach.
Clare is a
partner and head of the projects practice at international law firm
Stephenson Harwood. She has significant experience of advising private
sector consortia and public sector organisations on infrastructure
projects in the transportation and health sectors.
Clare has been a member of the Association of Women Solicitors since 1997. During this time she has had special responsibility for public relations, developing the AWS logo and brand. Clare works closely with the Law Society as she represents the AWS on the Law Society’s Council.
Clare was AWS chairwoman in 2009/2010. Law is a business and Clare’s theme for her year was the promotion of women solicitors who are in the business of providing legal services. The AWS aims to be the essential national network promoting the potential and success of every woman solicitor. During her year as chairwoman Clare, together with the national committee, worked with women solicitors in the City, the regions and high street practices and with those who advise commerce, industry and government in order to assist them in realising their potential.
Clare is also a trustee and non-executive director of Regent’s
College, London.
Claire
Laney is a solicitor at Bosworths Solicitors in Hampton Court. Claire
specializes in employment law and dispute resolution and is also an
accredited mediator in commercial matters.
Claire has been a member of the AWS since she qualified as a solicitor in 2007 and she joined the executive committee in 2008 when she was invited to sit on the public relations sub-committee. In her spare time Claire enjoys snow skiing and spending time with family and friends.
Joanne is a solicitor specialising in corporate and commercial law in London. She joined the Association of Women Solicitors in 1998 and has been an active member of the executive committee since 2004. Joanne chaired the incorporation subcommittee in 2004/5, coordinated projects with researchers at Exeter and Newcastle universities for the AWS in 2005/6 and was involved in developing the AWS logo and brand in 2006/7. In 2007 and 2009, Joanne coordinated a project with the School Governors’ One Stop Shop to encourage solicitors and others to become school governors. Joanne was website editor from 2008 to 2010 and chaired the website sub-committee in 2009/2010. She is a regular contributor to the AWS Link magazine.
Danusia has been a member of the Association of Women Solicitors London Group committee since 2007. She has specialised in family law, helping clients with all aspects of family and relationship breakdown, since she qualified over 10 years ago.
Despite the many advances made in the legal profession, Danusia believes that the AWS offers what no other organisation can for women solicitors of all ages and at all stages in their career.
Danusia is chairwoman of the AWS London group for the year 2010/2011.
Sarah
obtained her Bachelors in Business Administration in 1991 whilst
working full time in the City of London in the banking and investment
management sector. Sarah studied law at Guildhall University, London
and was admitted to the Roll as a solicitor in 1996. After heading up
private client departments in the City, Sarah set up her own practice
Austins which is based in Chiswick.
Sarah is a qualified Trust and Estate Practitioner in onshore
jurisdictions.
Sarah is keen to promote women’s small business interests. She is a member of business networks with similar goals. This is in addition to being a member of the Law Society’s Probate Section, Sole Practitioners Group, Black Solicitors Network and Solicitors for the Elderly.
